Clinical Observation on the Prostatic Tumor

Abstract

|
"Since the Department of Urology was established in this Chonnam National University Hospital from March of 1967 up to August 1970, 23 cases of prostatic tumors were operated. Clinical observation on those 23 cases of prostatic tumors gave the following results. 1. Among the 23 cases, 18 cases were benign prostatic hyperplasia and 5 cases prostatic carcinoma. 2. The patient underwent prostatectomy revealed annually increasing tendency in incidence. 3. Peak incidence of age range was between 60 and 69 years of age, consisting 56. 5% and mean age of prostatic tumors was 67. 9 years old. 4. Mean interval elapsed from initial symptoms to visit was 15. 7 months. 5. Most frequent initial disturbance was dysuria, which occurred in 18 cases, while the other common manifestations were small stream, hematuria and tenesmus in order. 6. Mean amount of residual urine was 258 cc in benign prostatic hyperplasia and 229 cc in prostatic cancer. 7. Mean weight of removed tumors was 54.3 Gm. 8. Mean period of retention of indwelling catheter was 9. 2 days and mean period of postoperative hospitalization was 12. 7 days."
